Ritex... my very stagnant blog has jux turned into a Social Studies blog. Quite a cool idea to make us wanna do our hw..hahz.. so lets c dis wk's topic.

so... i choose (b)
Elitism is a practice of or belief in rule by an elite. Singapore is facing a political elitism problem with the People's Action Party (PAP) where she is being ruled by a group of people that believes in having a higher power of ruling singaporeans even when she is a decromatic society.
This problem has led to the public's going against of what they believe is a system that is only beneficial to the elite and the rich. They have feedback to change the citeria of selecting PAP members of parliament. Mr Lee Kuan Yew which believes that intelligence is inherited by parent's genes may be the cause of it. But i feel that this belief may have only worked in the past, during the development of Singapore. During that time, people who were rich or in the elite class were all well educated, thus they could develop Singapore into what she is today.However, singapore's literacy rate has improved by leaps and bounds and what Singapore needs now are good role models who have good characteristics like compassion, charitable and humility.
A grassroot member was once quoted saying that that we have a group of MPs that have little empathy for the poor or needy, seeing failure as an individual's fault. i feel that this would have been unfair to those who were intellectually smart but have no cash to attend university. i believe that since Singapore is already a developed country, i don't tink there is a need to only allow scholars or the so called bests of singapore to be allowed in parliament. What Singaporeans want is a government that will listen to their needs with patience and kindess.
The Wee Shu Min elitism scandal is one serious incident which increased the friction between the elite and the heartlanders which is us. Her statements caused much controversy and made many singaporeans start thinking about how Singapore was being ruled by the elite.
i hope that the government will introduce ways like allowing more people like social workers to enter parliament to balance out the problem of elitism.
